Good Faith Estimate
Your Rights and Protections under the No Surprises Act
The No Surprises Act, passed in December 2020 under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, is designed to protect clients and consumers from surprise medical bills.
Good Faith Estimate Provision
The Good Faith Estimate (GFE) provision of the No Surprises Act requires healthcare providers to give clients an estimate of anticipated costs for healthcare items and services. This provision took effect on January 1, 2022, and aims to promote transparency and prevent unexpected charges.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a detailed estimate of the total expected costs of non-emergency healthcare services. Its purpose is to help clients avoid surprises by outlining anticipated charges.
The GFE includes predictable costs such as regularly scheduled therapy appointments.
It does not include charges for no-shows, late cancellations, or other unforeseen items.
The estimate provides a projection of costs for up to 12 months, giving you a clear picture of expected expenses for the year ahead.
How Does This Affect You?
At Horizon Therapy and Assessment Services, we are committed to transparency and compliance with the No Surprises Act. Here’s what you can expect:
Notice of Rights: Upon scheduling services, you will receive written notice of your rights under the No Surprises Act.
Good Faith Estimate: You will also receive a Good Faith Estimate of the anticipated costs for your services.
Timeline for Receiving Your Good Faith Estimate
If services are scheduled at least 10 business days in advance, your GFE will be provided within 3 business days of scheduling.
If services are scheduled fewer than 10 business days in advance, your GFE will be provided at least 1 business day before your appointment.
Right to Dispute a Bill
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges.
